Gum Disease Laser Therapy

Laser therapy for gum disease eliminates the need for surgical intervention while improving recovery times and outcomes for patients with various degrees of periodontal disease. Laser surgery is nearly painless and encourages gum reattachment and healing without the invasiveness of surgical intervention.

Dr. Isabelle is proud to offer the latest technology available for periodontal therapy: laser treatment. There are numerous advantages to using laser therapy over traditional methods that require a scalpel and sutures.

Benefits of Laser Dentistry

Comfort:
With laser treatment, there is reduced or no bleeding, minimized swelling, no charring, and no drill noise or vibration. The stress and anxiety often associated with dental work are greatly reduced when you experience quick, effective, and essentially pain-free laser procedures. Also, postoperative sensitivity is minimized by laser dentistry, and recovery time is much faster than with traditional methods. In fact, because the laser technique is less invasive, the mouth begins to heal immediately after treatment.

Reduced Risk of Infection:
The laser’s high-energy light beam sterilizes the area where it is used, thereby reducing the risk of bacterial infections and relapses.

Anesthesia Limited or Eliminated:
Because laser dentistry is virtually painless, there is no need for painful anesthetic injections or lingering numbness after treatment. Often, only a light anesthetic spray is required. Laser treatment eliminates the complications and cost associated with anesthesia.

Uses of Dental Lasers

Dr. Isabelle can perform a variety of procedures using laser technology, such as a frenectomy, osseous surgery, and gum grafting. Dr. Isabelle is also able to use laser technology as a way to regenerate healthy gums and remove diseased tissue in a virtually painless way. This method also encourages healthy gum tissue to regenerate and attach to the teeth. There is a much lower chance of gum disease returning when laser therapy is used rather than traditional surgery.

Gum Disease Laser Therapy FAQs

Is laser therapy for gum disease painful?

The procedure is not painful because the area is numbed with a topical numbing spray. The laser seals any blood vessels and nerve endings, so discomfort after the procedure is minimal. Advil or Extra Strength Tylenol is sufficient for pain relief.

Will I need to take time off from work?

Most patients take the day off for laser therapy but can return to work and other activities the following day.

How long does it take to heal after laser therapy?

Full healing takes between 5 and 10 days, but you will feel fine after the first day or two.

Does dental insurance cover laser therapy for gum disease?

Most dental insurance providers cover medically necessary laser therapy for active gum disease, but coverage limits can vary significantly. Check with your provider to determine your coverage limits.
